Clean Cole Street

The Clean Cole Street project – where much of the commercial area of Cole Valley is swept every day by CleanScapes (http://www.cleanscapes.com/sfdsm.html) — continued for year 2011 thanks to 8 participating merchants, CleanScapes, CVIA, the Santa on Cole photo shoot, and our member donors.

The results of the project are noticeable, and CVIA continues to receive positive responses about the sidewalk cleaning program. Not only is the sidewalk clean right after the sweep, but it remains that way throughout the day. It appears that people have greater respect for our sidewalks when they see they’ve been swept.

The daily CleanScapes service consists of:

·          Litter removal from building edge up to and including curb line;

·          Spot pressure washing of stains, particularly around trash receptacles;

·          Removal of illegal posters and graffiti from public property;

·          Cleaning newsracks;

·          Weeding.

2011 Participating Merchants

Alpha Market
Bambino’s Ristorante
BurgerMeister
Cole Cleaners
Crepes on Cole
Cole Hardware
Cole Valley Fitness
Postal Chase

The sidewalk space in front of Eos, Mane Attraction, Lavande, Video Nook, Reverie, Say Cheese, and Occasions is maintained by the shop owners and/or building managers.

Loic Nichols, a Cole Valley professional photographer, partnered with CVIA to take pictures of kids (and dogs, and grown-ups) with Santa as a fundraiser for the Clean Cole Street project. This year it was successful in raising over $700. CVIA continues to donate proceeds from the Cole Valley Fair, and our members continue to generously donate to the project. One anonymous donor, once again, has kindly agreed to make up the difference.

Remember:  if you can see the difference of this project and you’d like to see it continue, the merchants need to conitnue to financially support the project with a very nominal fee (less than $1 per day per merchant).  Please thank the merchants who support this program and encourage others to join in!
